About Us
Who We Are
We are a small, start-up non-profit, dedicated to
assisting horses off the track learn new careers
and find loving homes. We began this about 2
years ago with the purchase of a small ranch in
Woodland, CA. We started with PMU rescue and
have many draft horses who still live here. With
the help of some wonderful people, we were
introduced to the Standardbred breed.
Much thanks must be given to the ones that
helped us to get started:
Jenna Cornelson, a STB trainer currently on the
east coast, for allowing us to spend time with her
to learn about life at the track first hand.
Our veterinarian, Dr. Dave Valcheck, for
recommending that we work with the
Standardbred breed.
How Can You Help
The most important thing we can use at
this time is volunteers. We have many
horses right now and all could use some
extra attention! We would love to have
you out to groom, hand walk or just feed
the horses carrots and love on them!
We also have a current wish list, but
understand if you prefer to wait to
donate until we receive our tax
exemption status.

Where We Are
The horses are kept at Hacienda Becerra in Woodland. You can see additional info
about the facility on their web site: www.haciendabecerra.com. Most horses are
kept in large, dry lot pastures and any horses who come off the track with injuries
are kept either in mare motel stalls or barn stalls. Some horses listed on the site are
horses that are still at the track or at their owner's/trainer's facility.
Thank you SO much to Park
Pacifica Stables for
donating a much needed
hotwalker! They donated
quite a few halters as well!
They additionally took in
one of our older
Standardbreds who needed
some extra weight due to
a previously bad situation.
If you are ever in the
Pacifica area, we highly
recommend their place ---
they have a beautiful
facility, very friendly and
helpful staff and their
horses are some of the
most beautifully kept we
have
seen. You can see more
info on their web site:

Our Team
We have an incredible team of people and businesses that we work with to ensure that the
horses receive the best possible feed and care.
Sue Boyce who helped us find our very first Standardbred and has given us wonderful information along
the way.
Desomer Stables for contacting us to place some of their horses, including special needs horses.
Gordy Graham, a STB trainer who has some of the most kind and easy to work with horses we have ever
met.
Lehigh Vickroy and Alexis Alterman for all of the 'behind the scenes" work they do at the track, placing
countless horses into wonderful homes.
And many other trainers/owners at the Cal Expo track, who truly care about what happens to their horses
after their racing career is finished. We thank you all!
