Browse the web site and see which horses peak your interest.  Then
we highly suggest you come and meet the horses in person, and better
yet, come and visit several times!  Once you have found a horse that
you are interested in and we agree would be a good fit, submit an
application, with a $25 non-refundable application fee and the required
pictures (if out of state).  Please fax, snail mail, or e-mail it to us.
Applications can be processed within 1-2 days.

Adopters must be over 18 years old and have sufficient horse care
knowledge to adopt.  Decisions are based on the applicant's horse
knowledge, honesty, safety of the facility, references, and photographs.

Shipping is your responsibility. We also ask for an adoption donation,
which varies by the horse's level of use.  Adoption fees start at $500.00
and are not over $1,000.00.  An adoption donation is waived for
"Pasture mates" or companion horses.  TROTR is a non-profit
organization (501 (c)3 in progress) and relies completely on
contributions.

Our adopted horses can never be bred, raced, or given away.  We are
looking for lifetime homes, however do understand that sometimes an
adopter's circumstances change, or some adopters take in horses as
training/resale projects.   It is written into our adoption agreement that
TROTR is always in contact with the current owner of the horse.  We
must also have first right of refusal for any horse that is adopted (this
includes future owners beyond the initial adopter).  If an adopter can no
longer provide good care for the horse, or has an immediate need to
re-home a horse they have adopted, the horse can come back to
TROTR for any reason at all.

TROTR
Therapeutic Riding and Off-Track Rehabilitation

Some of the horses have been broke to ride, others are fresh off the track and we give them
some down time to "just be a horse" until we start to work with them.

We start all of the horses with groundwork using natural horsemanship techniques, and begin
riding bareback with a rope hackamore.  We gradually begin riding with various saddles
(English, western and australian) and with a snaffle bit.  The STB's are all driven in a snaffle bit
and are already quite comfortable with this.  On a whole, saddling and riding the STB's for the
first time is quite uneventful.  They are very willing and eager to please horses.

Unfortunately we do not always have time to take them out on the trail, however we have a
large obstacle course (which includes a pond, bridge, jumps, etc.) in order to introduce them
to many scary and/or natural obstacles that they may face on a trail ride.  Once they are under
saddle, we work them using basic figures (serpentines, figure 8's, 20m circles, etc.) as well as
cavaletti, to increase their responsiveness to both rein and leg pressure.  Most of the STB's
and TB's come off the track with wonderful ground manners and are quite good for the farrier
and the vet, as well as with trailering (both slant loads and straight loads).

Payment Options:
Horses must be paid for in cash before they leave the track or their farm.   For horses
currently residing at Hacienda Becerra, cash, cashier's check or paypal payment methods are
accepted.

Health Info:
All horses are up-to-date on 4-way, West Nile and Strangles immunizations, as well as
worming and farrier work.

Trainer/Owner Listings:
Please contact the trainer/owner directly for horses listed by them --- the contact information
will be clearly listed next to the available horse.  Please keep in mind that track
trainers/owners are extremely busy people and may have limited time to show a horse.
Serious inquiries only.  Thank you!
General Info:

accompany the horse as he/she becomes TROTR property.

We appreciate if the owner can transport the horse to a TROTR designated location,
however transportation is also available.
