Consider a Standardbred...
We are very pleased to announce that a natural horsemanship
trainer is now at the facility where the horses are kept.  In addition,
a
free, weekly, group lesson, with this trainer, is offered to anyone
who volunteers with TROTR!
Recent activities:
A Little About What We Do
Although there are several rescues in California that deal with off-track Thoroughbreds, we have found few that deal
specifically with Standardbreds off the track.  We are hoping to fill a much needed niche!  Many people do not know about
the extremely versatile Standardbred.  Standardbreds can look very similar to their cousin the Thoroughbred, however are
generally very calm and make excellent family horses for trail, pleasure, etc.  They are also athletic enough to do well in
sporthorse disciplines.  One recent adopter labeled the Standardbred breed as the "labradors of the horse world" --- this
is the best description we've heard of for this wonderful breed!

Local High School Students helping around the ranch
We have been very fortunate to have several hard-working high school
students come out to help with odd jobs around the ranch, and to work with
the horses.   This is a great way to work off community service hours if your
school requires them for graduation!
With the help of some very dedicated track personnel, we
are looking forward to hosting an all-Standardbred horse
show in S
pring 2009.  More info to come!!!

full armor!)

We're joining up with another non-profit company that accepts all unwanted or unusable electronics containing hazardous
waste such as lead and mercury. Once collected, products are taken to the Electronic Recyclers International (ERI) eWaste
processing plant in Fresno to be safely and ethically recycled. After that, we can receive funds from ERI for donated
televisions, computer monitors, plasma screen and laptops!

Some specifics:

* All electronic items are accepted.
* Electronic Recyclers Int'l (ERI) is located in Fresno so no items are shipped offshore.
* ERI safely/ethically recycles and disposes of electronic items at their state-of-the-art plant.
* ERI destroys hard drives and provides certification of destruction on request.

Examples of items that can be donated:

Cables/Cords              Computers and Monitors          Disk Drives
DVD Players                Keyboards                               Microwaves
Power Supplies           Stereo Equipment                    Tape Drives
Printers                       Copiers                                    ZIP Drives
VCRs                          FAX machines                          Cell Phones

Please pass the word!  The fundraiser begins now and will continue until the end of S
eptember.  We are so excited to be a
part of this as it's doing something great for the environment and helping the horses at the same time!  Funds from this drive
will be used specifically to pay for our HUGE hay bill.
Upcoming Fundraiser:
With the downturn in the economy and the rising costs of gasoline or energy, TROTR needs your help!
Unfortunately, in difficult economic times, animals are often the first to suffer. Equines (horses, ponies,
minis, donkeys, and mules) especially are at risk because of their specific feeding and healthcare needs.
Likewise, they are expensive animals to maintain and many are being abandoned or even given away,
often to unscrupulous people posing as buyers but looking for cheap or free horses to take to slaughter
houses in Mexico, where they make a lot of money by selling horses to be killed through inhumane
methods.

TROTR needs YOUR help now. We remain committed to helping our equine friends and working with
other rescues, BUT WE CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT!

We are asking our friends and supporters to help us raise much-needed funds for the following:

        Hay and feed
        Veterinary care
        Preventative healthcare, such as worming meds, vaccinations and antibiotics
        Stable management practices, such as Insect and fly control
        Water, electricity and gasoline

TROTR is growing and we are excited to announce that TROTR is establishing an ongoing fundraising
program that includes events, grant writing and direct requests, such as the following:

Foster Family Sponsors:        Please consider becoming a foster family sponsor for one of TROTR’s
horses. $12.50 a week ($50 a month) can feed one horse or worm 4 horses. Plus, as a foster family
sponsor, you will have access to the horse or horses that you are sponsoring to visit, groom and learn
about handling horses from the ground up if you are not already familiar with equine techniques.

Adoption Services:        If you are looking for a solid family pleasure horse, please contact us. Our
adoption fees are reasonable ($500) and we work with you to help find the perfect match for you and
your family.

Adopting a horse is a huge commitment, so it is important to spend time with us at the rescue to
learn about the available horses and how to care for them, especially if this is your first horse.

Please help us continue this important work with horses, ponies, minis and other equines. We realize
times are tough economically but your donation in whatever amount will contribute greatly to the welfare
of these fantastic animals.

DONATE TODAY to help us keep the barn doors open to our equine friends. Without your help, we can’t
continue to care for and accept more horses to prepare for permanent placement with their new families.
And please continue to check our website for upcoming events because there is a lot coming up and
many ways you can help through volunteering and visiting the horses!
